Living the New Life

The little things

It is the little things that make the difference.  It’s the little things in marriage, in work, and also in church that truly make a difference.  Now don’t get me wrong the big things are extremely important, but the little things separate most churches.

I have tried to continually increase our “little things” since I have been at New Life.  I have a long list ahead as goals but Rome wasn’t built in a day.  Let me give an example:  Sarah and Kacie Payne used to make homemade banana bread, and I would deliver them to all of our first time guests.  As we grew and Sarah got a job we had to retool it because I was killing her and Kacie.  I would love to one day bring it back, but we are not there yet.

What we do is simple.  I write a hand written thank you card and insert a $5 Subway card in it.  In the next two weeks we will start refining and also stepping up our game in our guest relations.  Why?  Because people matter to God and people matter at New Life.

If you are interested in getting involved in guest relations ministry shoot me an email at cryandavid@aol.com.

Sunday Recap

This weekend was the start of Spring Break in our county.  It may have effected us with some families but we still had 187 in attendance.  I spoke on Mistakes that we can learn from.  I preached about the story of the Israelities from 1 Corinthians 10.  I rarely preach exegetical sermons anymore but I did yesterday.  It was a cool change up.  The music was great and Chad did a great job on the drums filling in for Caleb.

I just want to remind everyone to invite your friends and family to New Life on Easter Sunday.  I believe that it is going to be one of those special days that we will never forget.  Remember that we will have two services on the 12th.  The first one will be at 8:45 and the second service will be at 10:45.  Invite, Invite, and Invite!!!

I love Pete Carroll’s “three rules” at USC.One, protect the team. Two, no whining no complaining, no excuses. Three, be early. We could learn these lessons in church.

*  Sunday is the last day for YWEA giving.  I hope people respond to this worhty cause.

* Evelyn Horne is in the hospital in Cochran.  She is in room 161.

* I am tired.

* The Egg drop is upon us.  Lots to do, lots to do.

Wild and Crazy Week Continues

Here I am giving an update at 1:00 in the morning.  What does that say about my week?

I left Wednesday afternoon with the kids to go to my grandmother’s funeral.  I got home about 8:30 last night.  Long day to say the least.  I am very thankful that my grandmother is no longer in any pain.  What makes me feel the best though, is that her and Papa are now together again in Heaven.

I am writing this now because Sarah woke me up and said that she is having a lot of contractions.  She is giving it some time before she decides if this is it.  We have a long night ahead.  I am good to go right now because of adrenaline.  I love my life!!!  Stay tuned in for as my life turns tomorrow :) .

This has been a long week and it is only Tuesday

Wow, what a crazy day.  I will try to give a brief recap.  New Life prepared over 400 biscuits this morning and feed the teachers of Bleckley County.  It ran so smoothly this morning that I was shocked.  It was crazy because the day started off so early.  Here is the miracle though, everyone who signed up to help got there at least 5 minutes early.  That is right.  I said everyone and early.  Way to go Ashley and Brittany!!!!

The highlight for me was when delivering to the high school, I overheard a staff member ask another staff person, “What are they doing this for?”  Her response was, “Just because.”  I could not have said it better.

Later on I spent an exciting 6 hours in a courtroom.  I digress.  I am home and will soon go to bed.  I love all of you out there.  Peace.

Keep my family in your prayers

mamaandmePlease keep my family in your prayers.  My grandmother, Irene Thompson passed away at the age of 92.  I have often shared stories of her from the pulpit.  The visitation will be tomorrow in Habersham with the funeral on Thursday at 2:00.  I do not know yet if I will be able to go due to Sarah and our baby situation.  There is still no news on that front.  I will keep you updated as much as possible.

I felt really good about today.  I can’t explain it except that I changed a few things about my pre-service routine and I felt better.  Only time will tell as far as my changes go.

As for the service the music was really good today and the songs after the Video testimony was just on point.  We had 183 in attendance in service.

As far as a baby update there is no change.

I also want to wish a Happy Birthday to Sarah’s Dad Joseph Hough.  I am very blessed to have such a great father in-law.  Papa Joe, I love you very much and appreciate you more than you will ever know.

I thought that since we are having a family day around the house and that I am speaking on family love tomorrow that I should give a quote on the family today.  Hope that you enjoy.

Where has the madness gone?

One of my favorite times of the year is right now.  I absolutely love March Madness, but this year it has just not been the same.  There aren’t any teams that I am really pulling for in the tournament.  Georgia? Yeah right.  Kentucky?  This is what happens when you force out Tubby.  Georgia Tech?  Nope.

The only three teams that I will pull for and none of them are in it this year.  So here is what I am doing.  I am waiting for the Cinderalla team to win and then I am going to pull for them.  I want the madness!!!!
